16 strand braid on a disk
Take a disk with at least 20 slots, divide the strings in three groups, one set of 6, two sets of 5, next to the goup of 6 you need at least one empty slot on either side, the other space needs to be at least 2 slots great. If you have more slots, still group your strings in slots next to each other and make the groups of empty slots as equal as posible.
Take one outer string of the set of 6 and move over its own group and over the group next to it, to be placed in the first empty slot next to that group, I made the strand and the slot to be used red.
(Left handers can also move it the other way round, over the empty slots, over the group of strings and over the other set of empties to be placed in the last empty slot.)
You can turn the disk till the next string to be used is in the top position again.
You have just made a new group of 6, take the other outer string and move it like the last.
The string just done is now light blue and the next to work is red again.
The braiding patern is just one move, but you need to make it many times to get a braid. So continue till your braid is long enough.

Back to start. one step backwards.
